I can also listen to 3 other conversations at once. Sensory overload is just a small fraction of this disorder. If you noticed when I go out I have to walk around and can’t stay in one spot lol. I usually don’t sleep at all after going out with friends. It’s worth it though. I used to try to hide these things and it would make me quiet all night or I’d be crawling out of my skin. Sometimes I stare off into space and people ask if I’m ok lol. There’s no harm in opening up about ADHD, different disorders, or especially mental illness. . A lot of people call ADHD a super power and in a way I can agree with that. We are more creative than most people, we are fun and spontaneous and we have a lot of imagination but I think that it’s important to see that there are a lot of downsides when it comes to this disability as well, cause that’s what it is a disability. I mean I’m an adult mom who can’t pay her own bills, who can’t remember doctors appointments or important meetings, who doesn’t have any routines or structure in her life and always find a way to lose all her stuff. I always need help and I can’t take care of myself a 100%, I’m basically an adult child. Having ADHD means living with anxiety and depression cause your brain is a total mess that never sleeps or shuts up and also feeling like you suck at everything and you can’t do nothing right. ADHD might come with a few pros but the cons are way more and I think that it’s important to talk about the struggles that comes with this disability, just as it is important to see the good things and laugh about them. . #adhd#adhdawareness#adhdproblems

Habits and routines certainly help an ADHD child cope. But sometimes life can throw a curve ball. Something that shakes the very fundament of daily life. Like having run out of Nutella. This prevalence has remain the same over three decades. 1 week Citalopram update - Ik slik nu 1 week 5 gram per dag en het valt me zo mee 😅 ik heb echt wel wat bijwerkingen maar eigenlijk alle bijwerkingen die ik heb had ik al door de angststoornis, dus eigenlijk heel fijn dat ik het nu allemaal aan een pilletje kan wijten 😇 Ik kan merken dat ik over het algemeen veel rustiger ben, m'n ADHD hoofd loopt niet meer zo veel over en ik slaap veel beter 💤 Gisteren kreeg ik een nieuwe bijwerking, duizelingen... Daar schrok ik even van want die waren best heftig maar ook dat ging weer weg. Tot nog toe vind ik de rust die ik eindelijk heb gevonden meer opwegen dan de bijwerkingen dus we gaan door! 🤞🌻

#gibberish don’t read Finally on the up! Soon I’ll be where I should’ve been so long ago, I wouldn’t want to re live the last four years of my life but i believe being in the dark for a moment stops us taking the light for granted and makes us better people. I don’t want or expect my ex to fall back into my arms because I’m doing better, I want just her to stop thinking of me as some lazy unmotivated depressed useless person, instead understand Its a mental disorder that caused us so much heartache for so many years. It really does shed a light on so many things, i want to apologise for it all, at the same time I wonder if I subconsciously want to see if it could be different with new perspectives which then gets me worried an anxious as every time we start talking again my life goes down hill then crashes when it doesn’t work. Which happenens every time, until the lastime, I gave up, I stopped trying to better my life so she would want me back and just focussed on trying to find my smile again. That’s when I had a breakthrough, now on the mend I’m not sure what will happen next time, probably nothing because I’ll most likely do nothing because it’s the easiest option and at least whilst I’m on meds I don’t constantly think of us like I do normally. For some reason I care what she thinks, even though she probably doesn’t care at all..

Perfectionism isn’t really about trying to be perfect. It’s more a desire to quiet your demanding inner critic.

#adhd has reached epidemic proportions. At least 1 out of every 5 high school students and roughly half of the college kids reported regular use of stimulant medications. If I told you that many adolescents and young adults were addicted to meth - maybe you’d be alarmed. Well, sound the alarm. Adderall, vyvanse, Ritalin - they are all amphetamines that are IDENTICAL and indistinguishable from “crystal meth” or the methamphetamine cooked up in drug kitchens all over the city. And of course, because you’re giving your kids METH - they get addicted and have scary side effects which can even be life threatening. Stimulants are popular because they’re profitable, easy, and fast. But of course they don’t fix the problem - if anything they make it worse. So what does “fix” ADHD? Eating clean, exercising regularly and intensely, limiting time on electronic devices, prioritizing sleep, and socializing with peers. You know - normal childhood for most of us born before 1990. Specifically VERY effective for ADHD is the “Feingold Diet” which involves removing ALL food additives. No food dyes, artificial or “natural” flavors, preservatives, sweeteners, thickeners, emulsifiers, etc. only REAL food ingredients. Very easy concept - super difficult to implement. These additives are EVERYWHERE. ~95% of the time, removing all the additives dramatically improves mood, focus, and behavior. If you do so and are still struggling with some hyperactivity, then try cutting out foods high in Salicylates (includes taking Aspirin). For some, salicylate naturally present in certain foods is excitatory to the brain. The dark side of adhd ⠀⠀ I’m sure we have all seen Star Wars or are familiar with the famous quote “ fear is the path to the dark side” ⠀⠀ But do we really know how this resonates with a atypical mind. Yoda explains to Luke on dagobah “ once you start down the dark path forever will it dominate your destiny and consume you “ What if we look at it from an ADHD perspective . ⠀⠀ Fear leads to anger - an atypical person develops self esteem issues and becomes socially withdrawn. Why, cause we are perceived to be impulsive, inattentive, hyperactive, talk harshly , misunderstood, loud, speak our minds. ⠀⠀ This all in turn causes the world to reject us and make us feel inhuman. It causes you to withdraw from the world, retracting to a place of comfort ( your isolated Alcatraz) . We are left pondering on the words of others and being hijacked in our swirl of thoughts leading us to become angry. ⠀⠀ Anger leads to hate- the most corrosive aspect of living Is to hate some one. I won’t lie I’ve been here so many times. It’s the emotional storm of your own angry thoughts. How the world will never accept you for who you are not what you could be. ⠀⠀ Hatred is the catacomb of your own thoughts buried in every room waiting to remind you of what caused you to be here. Was it your boss, work stress, friends that abandon you or dislike you or that girl you tried so hard to take on a date but made a fool of your self. Every chamber is a thought and every day you waltz through these thoughts and allow them to enter your mind. This in turn leads to suffering ⠀⠀ Hate leads to suffering- the eternal circle of self doubt, fear, and the continual calling of your adhd mind reminding you of the what lead you here . ⠀⠀ From my experience I know that my psychiatrist has helped me battle through this. He taught me ways to over come the thought process, understand why I’m feeling what I’m feeling. The trip started with Kris bolting from the wagon pickup at the front gate all around the deer 🦌 to the albino raccoon 🦝 if your familiar you’ll know I lost eyesight of him twice as I was chasing him running (I was not planning on doing cardio today. ) I only caught him because he fell on his bum! We went to a wedding this weekend for a dear friend of ours. . Almost made it through without any pregnant hormone tears. . At the reception the classic bouquet toss occurred, so naturally I sent Kari up there as “All the Single Ladies” by Beyoncé played. . And of course guess who caught it? Yep... my Kari. . And the tradition of that single lady being the next person to get married made me think. . Yes, it’s possible as she was one of the older girls out there, but when your child has an intellectual disability and ADHD you think twice about the “normal” things in life. . Because the “normal” things in life are NOT normal. . We have to work on life skills so hard with her that thinking about a high level relationship such as a marriage seems impossible. . I question myself like this, “Can someone with a normal functioning level want to marry a person with a lower functioning level? Isn’t there some type of extra care the “normal” functioning person would have to provide making a give and take marriage hard? . So much of me prays that there is someone in life for her because she is beautiful inside and out, but the REAL me says this may not be true. . And that is where the few tears come in. It’s where being a mom of a special needs child hits hard. . READING HACKS FOR ADHD! . . . Reading is something that’s never really come naturally for me, and I find this to be very common in us ADHD folks. In fact, my “reading with ADHD” post is arguably my most viral post and I was getting tons of messages saying it was relatable! That said, here’s what helps my ADHD brain 🧠 read. . . . 1.) FOLLOW THE WORDS WITH YOUR PEN. Or finger. This helps me lots with my focus. Thanks English high school teacher for showing me this one! . . . 2.) 25/5 RULE. Us ADHD folks dive all the way into things, this can be our friend sometimes but many times, it can overwhelm us. The 25/5 rule is a way of breaking up a task in to chunks. For about an hour a two, you’ll go 25 minutes (setting a timer) doing nothing but reading with all other distractions put down (libraries are your friend), and then taking a timed 5 minute break after (bonus points if you move your butt! I like walking!) then 25 minutes of reading, 5 minute break again. This cycle for about 1-2 hours helps me lots with reading and productivity. . . . 3.) SET A GOAL AND GET ACCOUNTABILITY. Encouraging friends matter. One of the best things we can do is set a goal for the amount of books we’d like to read in a year, and ask a buddy of ours to check in perhaps once every other week to see how’s it going! We’re all too familiar with jumping on a task and not sticking with it, accountability is the ultimate hack here. . . . What about you? What’s one book you’d like to read in the next 30 days? So this week’s #featurefriday is late.. I love this page @phdvalerierosa ! We have been traveling ALL weekend for a wedding. My son’s ADHD showed up as an uninvited guest and we had to leave. What I initially felt was a sense of embarrassment and isolation. Followed by 🤬 THEM. They have no idea how hard he is trying. And he’s never seen a beach in real life before so his hyper focus was on overdrive. Regardless of a child’s behavior adults should never stare, point or call them “bad” to the point where they can hear. . I’ll be talking about this on the blog this week. It’s been a hard few months. I struggle with making myself do anything that isn’t absolutely necessary. It took me 3 weeks to get my ADHD meds refilled because I can’t *just call* and ask for a refill. Idk why, but even just calling is a huge task that I have to make myself do. And then it took me a week to actually go pick up the prescription because I would forget until I was at home and making myself go out again seemed like such a big task. But I finally have my meds again, so now I just have to remember to take them everyday. Things still suck right now. I have so much on my mind and that I’m worried about. Everything seems too big to tackle. My brain is making everything so hard. I have a hard time making decisions on my own. I know what I want to do, but I don’t always know if the decision I WANT to make is the right one for me. . One of the things about my ADHD brain is, that I have a hard time creating an overall view of what the consequences of my decisions will be. Because it takes a lot of organization and brain power that I don’t really have, so I get easily overwhelmed. . So every time I have big decisions to make, I outsource the consequence calculations to my parents to make sure I get the full perspective 😂 . As you move through your Sunday and start making your plans for the week ahead, I encourage you to make room in your mind for "falling off the horse." ••• Plans, routines, habits are so great but the reality is, it is pretty much *inevitable* that we will fall of the horse at some point: get distracted from our plans and realize we're behind, not follow through on a part of our routine, forget a habit we're trying to set. ••• Accept it. It is normal and part of life. ••• Instead, before you begin, set the intention to get back on the horse, not get TRAMPLED by the horse when this happens. ••• Don't throw out ALL your plans because one element of it got lost. Don't go completely rogue for the entire day or week because you didn't perfectly live out the routine you'd devised. Don't give up on the habit you're trying to build just because the process isn't flawless like you envisioned. ••• Falling off the horse isn't fun. It can be downright discouraging to find yourself on the ground. But if you get back up in the saddle and keep going, you'll still have spent more time ON the horse than OFF it. ••• And that is still a win, my friends. ••• I first heard this quote/concept during an @adhdrewired podcast by Eric Tivers. Praise your child!⠀ ⠀ Anak dengan adhd membutuhkan dukungan lebih dari orang tua dan pengasuh mereka. Salah satu bentuk dukungan yg dapat diberikan adalah memberikan pujian (praise?) dan rasa aman pada anak. Perlu diingat bahwa anak dengan adhd cenderung lbh sering mendapatkan kritik daripada pujian. Pemberian pujian dapat memotivasi mereka dan meningkatkan kepercayaan diri mereka!
