I cringe at this first picture, I had a saggy belly and padding around the hips but absolutely nothing above the waist, so I was sort of like an inverted hourglass 😐 ⠀ I believe this is known as "skinny fat" but I don't really like the term, I just know it felt horrible. ⠀ In the beginning Ithought the solution was to keep dieting but in fact I had to GAIN weight (muscle) in order to lose fat! 🤯 ⠀ Obviously I have a lot more work to do but I like to reflect on how far I've come! Morning IG fam, today I worked my back really good along with a couple cardio intervals mixed in. I hate cardio but it helps my situation lol. 4 sets on everything, the first 2 sets were high rep with moderate weight. Update on the gains status: Gains are being maaade 🥇🚨 swipe for the full update. • Have really brought up the back lately and especially proud of the rear delts which are starting to make their presence knownn! • Quick pullup/pulldown tip I've used lately: • Finding a comfortable grip width is ultra important for activating the ENTIRE back effectively. • Too often do I see people go very wide which limits the range of motion and puts more the stress on the shoulders OR too narrow and reduces the scapulars ability to spread and move in a healthy pattern. • This is important not just for function but also for da gainz. If your scapular doesn't move through a full, healthy range of motion then you will not be fully activating all the musculature of your back! • Tldr 🔑: Grab a wide enough grip so that your scapular can move not only up but OUT. • Agree? Some Lat activation exercises I found made a big difference before training the lat component of back. 🦇 Information: your lats are responsible for adduction, extension and internal rotation of the arm. Video 1: Focused on adduction and slight extension. Pull your elbow down and slightly behind your body Video 2: Focused on extension and slight internal rotation towards the end of the movement. Tips: place your hand over your lats to assist with activation (video 1). Try and set your scapula when performing. These are hard for me to get form down- keeping lat engaged with your back straight all while bent over a bench as I try to avoid letting my arm go to high. After last week's failed deadlift attempt, I started getting antsy - when I don't achieve what I set out to do, it actually physically hurts me...it's a type of pain I can't describe, ok fine, it's failure .
