Happy Caturday! Have you had your cat serviced recently? Remember, even 1000 miles is advisable. All claws checked for tread depth, oil changed, water topped up. Or has your cat attended your local church service recently? If they are dedicated to their faith you may wish to assist them in accessing local mass. If you're confused, my stories from yesterday could clear that up for you πŸ˜„πŸ˜‚

A mirror in a mirror in a mirror. This is how my living room used to look, until it was taken over by boxes! πŸ˜‚ I'm gagging for some order! πŸ˜‚

Just keeping our goal in mind πŸ’

Drum roll please... πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯...⁣ We raised Β£224.34 for little Noah! WOW! Do you know what a huge difference that makes to him and his family? I went to the nursing home to visit Nora today and give her the news of our fundraising efforts. Well, she shed a tear, she was speechless, and could not thank us all enough πŸ˜’πŸ’– I also managed to make 20 lavender bags from the purple organza she provided and the lavender from my front garden, for her to sell to visitors and staff at the home. She was delighted, and thanked me by ordering me to cut every sweet pea from her vivid but tiny garden - a 2 metre stretch of paved walkway outside her room - and I did as I was told!⁣ We also had a rather tearful and meaningful goodbye as I set off for Spain in a couple of weeks. We each said how much we meant to each other, that we've learnt so much from each other and we've made memories that will last forever. I must admit, I'm not overly sentimental about goodbyes but I did get choked up, because she's taught me an incredible life lesson that I've been thinking about so much lately...she was told this by her mother when she was just 6 years old, in 1930, and she still maintains to this day that "to have friends, one must be a friend"...it takes a minute to think about, but I realised that my compassion for others' comfort must come first, above my sense of being entitled to the same treatment back. It inspires me to ask, listen, be positive, laugh with, and do what I can for my friends. I found myself applying it to other relationships: to have a husband, one must be a wife...to have a daughter, one must be a mother...to have a good neighbour, one must be a good neighbour πŸ’β£ Thank you again for your donations. Any updates I get on Noah I will share with you all πŸ’–β£ ⁣

⚠️ FAKE BEE ADVICE ⚠️⁣ No, not advice on fake bees 😏but advice on helping bees that has been discovered to be untrue! Last week David Attenborough allegedly urged everyone to leave sugar water in their garden for struggling bees and anyone who's read up on the current bee crisis knows how important bees are to the planet, and our survival! But the statement wasn't actually true and didn't come from Sir David, and can actually be detrimental to bee populations 🐝😲🐝⁣ ⁣ If a readily available source of sugar water is left out, bees will recruit others from the hive to harvest it and ignore the harder work of collecting pollen. Which poses two big problems, one is that sugar water has no nutritional value to bees - it's like us living on milkshakes - and two is that bees will not be pollinating plants which is essential to the ecosystem.⁣ An individual teaspoon of sugar water for one struggling bee is helpful so don't stop doing that! Just don't leave it out or keep providing it on a long term basis.⁣ ⁣ The best way to help bees is to plant things that flower throughout the year. My lavender and wildflower garden (out the front) is almost exclusively for the purpose of the local bee populations. But it gets lots of compliments too!⁣

This week I met with my dear friend Nora, who you might remember from previous posts, and she told me that her great grandson has been diagnosed with cancer at just 3 years of age πŸ’”β£β£ ⁣⁣ Unfortunately it is inoperable and he is too young for chemo. He is receiving radiotherapy to try to elongate his life.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ In order to enjoy the time they have together as a family, Noah's parents are saving for a hot tub as he loves being in water and public swimming pools pose a health risk and take time and effort when he's feeling so poorly.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So Nora has asked me to help her make some lavender bags to sell at the nursing home where she lives and, of course, I've agreed...but I reckon we can do better than that πŸ˜ƒ I know you are amazing at helping others when times are tough so I'm setting up a small fundraising auction where you can bid on my designs to raise money for little Noah! πŸ’– Swipe to see Nora (who is 95 and camera shy) and also Noah with his family.⁣ As you can see, his eyesight has now sadly become affected by the tumour.⁣ ⁣ Have you been touched by cancer, or know someone affected by childhood cancer? I can't imagine what Noah and his family are going through but every Β£1 you can spare will make an enormous difference in his little life and Norah will be so so grateful. She'll probably want to write you thank you letters knowing her πŸ˜„πŸ’œβ£β£ ⁣ See my profile for all the bid posts to follow. The auction ends Friday night and highest bidders win and will be contacted. If you don't want to bid but still want to help I've put my paypal link on my profile where I'll collect all funds to pass on. 100% of everything raised (except postage costs) will go to Noah's cause.⁣⁣ Thank you so much! Xxx⁣⁣ ⁣⁣

Beautiful Summertime England. How fair be thy landscape πŸ’– We had a wonderful day at Clare, Suffolk yesterday. This is the Priory with it's incredible walled gardens and orchard, and the river that runs beside it. Trying to squeeze in some lovely UK memories to take to Spain with us. Just over 3 weeks to go now. Today was not so carefree as we spent time saying our goodbyes to my step-grandmother who has always been so kind to us...what can you say? I read her The Beautiful Land of Nod by Ella Wilcox, just in case she can still hear us. Look it up if you get time, it's lovely xxx

ONE MONTH TO GO 'til we emigrate to Spain! If all goes as planned, of course. This week has seen us negotiating dates and er, animals! πŸ•πŸˆπŸ± So the owner is unable to rehome her cats and dog (she cant take them with her as she's elderly and unwell) so after a bit of thinking we've decided to take them on. Which means we're becoming fur parents to 6 kids now 🀣 Apparently they're no bother as they pretty much look after themselves. I couldn't say no as the only alternative was to put them to sleep! And anyway, looking back at all our Spain pics over the years...I guess you could say I'm partial to looking after a few strays. Spot a very young MΓ©-MΓ© in the mix, on the day we adopted her and her siblings from Spain. And just look at a big blind boy we named Saruman who I desperately wanted to take home. It's so hard to leave them behind and you just hope they'll be able to look after themselves. Do you drop a few scraps for the strays when you go on holiday?

Well, it looks like there may only be a matter of weeks before we say goodbye to this little cottage, a place of happiness, growth and inspiration for us over the last 3 years. Life has changed for the better, especially with regards to our mental wellbeing, since we moved from a busy built up town. Westcliff-on-Sea is in my heart but it didn't help my head. Southminster has brought wonderful neighbours, better weather, a more outdoor lifestyle and solidified relationships. But we know we need a new chapter in our lives! A big change, some adventure and unknowing...when you don't have babies being born it creates channels to other possibilities, so we're lucky in that way, that we can do something like move to some Southern Spanish mountain, and just see where life takes us...

In anticipation of our Spain move, I want to make some new quilted throws/bedspreads. I have one which is ten years old and still looks beautifully rich and pretty. I don't want to purchase more plastics/polyester if I can help it, and I have about 10 old throws which I no longer love! So I'm going to use the old throws as the middle batting (quilt stuffing). I've not quilt stitched before so this is a learning curve for me, but if you want to see how I do it, check out my story highlights as I go along! My aim is to get 2 or 3 quilted bedspread throws which look gloriously rich and vintage, handmade by moi and re-using old unwanted throws. Wish me luck!
